Roundabout issues in Cambridge

The contentious issue of roundabouts once again being discussed at Regional Council committee meetings.

A presentation by Principal Dan Witt from St. Benedict High School on Franklin Boulevard was made on behalf of parents and students.

He tells 570 News they are concerned about a proposed 3-lane roundabout on Franklin at Saginaw Parkway.

That traffic circle would be 1 of 5 three-lane roundabouts.

The project is expected to cost $55-million and is expected to start in 2014 and 2015.

Witt says concerns have grown since a transit bus hit a St. Mary’s high school student at the Block Line Road and Homer Watson Boulevard in Kitchener roundabout last October.

He says not just students lives could be at risk, because the intersection is busy all day long, not just during rush hour, and is used by everyone.
