Lawn watering restrictions start today

Starting today, May 31st, until the end of September…our lawn watering days are numbered.
We can water our lawns once a week here in the Region, now that the water conservation by-law is kicking in.
Steve Gombos is the Manager of Water Efficiency with the Region, and says don’t fret about that dried out and brown looking lawn just yet.
He says it may look like August grass, but it’s just gone dormant.
Gombos says for all watering activities, they should take place between 5:30am and 10am, and from 7pm and 11pm.
He says watering in the middle of the day will mean most of the water will evaporate before getting down into the soil.
The schedule is based on your home address.
Trees, flowers, shrubs and planted gardens can still be watered every other day.
The restrictions seem to be working. Gombos says the Region doesn’t hit peak demand like it used to.
Still, 250 warning were handed out last year. Eight charges were laid. The fine is $150.
