Drugs found in candy bag

Regional Police are investigating after a couple pills were found in a sealed bag of Tootsie Fruit Roll candy this morning (Monday).

Spokesperson Olaf Heinzel tells 570 News, a woman purchased the candy at a convenience store on Country Hills Drive, “She contacted police, police contacted a local pharmacist, and the pills were identified as prednisone, which is a prescription drug.”

Heinzel says the drug is an anti-inflammatory and is used to treat allergies.

Police notified the store, and the manufacturer of the incident.

“Although this appears to be an isolated incident, we would encourage anyone who has purchased this product in the last couple of days, and has not currently opened it, to check the candy carefully, and if they find anything suspicious, to contact police or the store where they purchased it.”

No one was hurt.
