With the Ministry of the Environment giving its approval to the Region’s rapid transit project, a member of Regional Council says the project is officially ” a go.”
Jim Wideman, who is chair of the Region’s Planning and Works Committee, also served as chair of the light rail consultation process. He tells 570 News that with the Ministry’s approval, announced today, there is nothing standing in the way of the project.
“What this is means is this is the clearest possible signal that this project is a go”, says Wideman. “I think what this does is it indicates the good planning that has been done over the last couple of years, leading us up to this step.”
Construction is due to begin in 2014, with the project due for completion three years later.
