UW names new Vice President

The University of Waterloo has named a respected business leader and dedicated community volunteer as their new Vice President, University Relations.

Tim Jackson earned a BA in accounting in 1991. He is a chartered accountant, and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the institute’s highest designation. He received the university’s 50th Anniversary Alumni Award, and Waterloo’s School of Accounting and Finance named a fellowship after him in 2005.

Jackson says he’s thrilled about letting the world know about the University of Waterloo, “As I been saying to be people. I essentially get to tell the story. I get to tell the world about the University of Waterloo. So, absolutely thrilled. It’s an incredible institution, I think it’s something most of us in this community are proud of and I get to play a role in telling that story to others.”

Apart from being a business leader, Jackson is a dedicated volunteer. He serves as chair of the Barnraisers’ Council of Waterloo Region and chair of the board of Centre in the Square, among other volunteer activities, “This community really has stepped up. Anytime any of the non-profit organizations I’ve been involved with, have reached out to the community to say we needed help, the community has responded. I think that makes it special”, said Jackson.

In his new role Jackson will be involved with strategic communications and an integrated approach to community and business relations, government relations, communications, public affairs and media relations, linking the university with the social, cultural and economic development of the community, province, country and the world.

Jackson’s appointment is effective May 1.
