Kitchener Rangers fans need not worry about the Aud expansion affecting the playoffs.
Rangers COO Steve Bienkowski provided 570 News with an update on the project. He says things are moving along on schedule and construction has been going well. “We sort of had three milestones to this point and we’ve hit each one,” he says. “We’re very happy where we are.”
Bienkowski says they do not expect a prolonged playoff run to affect the project. “We had to make a decision at the end of the first round. There was some additional work we had to do (with) air conditioning and such, that we had to make a financial commitment to,” he explains. “That will allow the air conditioning units to stay in place for as long as we need them.”
Last week was a big week for construction, according to Bienkowski, who says some of the structural steel was installed. Work is continuing on the installation of trusses, as well as on the dressing room and training facilities. It will be followed by some work behind the scenes, out of public view.
In July, Bienkowski says the building will be closed and the old roof will come down.
The Aud expansion was approved by the City of Kitchener back in November. It includes, among other things, an extra 1,000 seats, a new concourse area, fourth-level media room, new washrooms, concessions and renovated team space.
