Guelph Police investigating apartment fire

Just after 2:30 this morning Guelph Police and the Guelph Fire Department took a call regarding a fire at an apartment building located at 33 Inverness Drive in that city.

When they arrived on the scene, officers were directed to a 3rd floor apartment where smoke was billowing out the door.

The officers could not gain entry to the apartment because the door was locked, but a man from the apartment was seen on the balcony throwing items onto the ground.

As the fire unit began to fight the fire, Guelph Police evacuated the other tenants from the building.

The man from the apartment tried to exit the building, but was arrested.

An officer has been transported to the hospital and is being treated for smoke inhalation.

A 36-year-old Guelph man has been charged with Arson and Endangering Life and is scheduled to appear in court today.
