A Rangers Draft Pick Excited To Come To Kitchener

13 young hockey players lived the dream on Saturday after being selected by the Kitchener Rangers in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection Draft.

Michigan native Darby Llewellyn spent last season with the Detroit Honeybaked U16’s and was the Rangers pick in the 4th round, 71st overall.

Llewellyn scored 13 goals with 13 assists in 28 games and while he admits it wasn’t one of his best seasons, he’s excited to be joining a hockey team like the Rangers that has such a great track record of turning out NHL-calibre talent.

The soon-to-be 16-year old is already building a rapport with fellow draftees and felow fowards Ryan MacInnis and Matt Schmalz. Llewellyn says they’re all big kids with plenty of skill and he can’t wait to get on the ice with them.

With the Honeybaked U16’s Llewellyn wore #4 this past season and when told that #4 currently belongs to defenseman Ben Fanelli, he says he’ll go with #62 if it’s available when he arrives in Kitchener. Llewellyn plans on hitting the gym hard this off-season in order to be physically and mentally prepared for training camp in the fall.

Rangers Nation has no need to worry about the former Whalers season-ticket holder, because while he plans on being at the semi-final playoff game Tuesday night in Plymouth, Llewellyn tells 570News he’llbe supporting his new team and wearing Ranger blue.
