One of the world’s leading sources of business news says the BlackBerry fan base is alive and well in the U.S.
Bloomberg News set out to find out how BlackBerry loyalists regard their device, and found very encouraging results.
First, there are more than 75-million BlackBerry subscribers south of the border (including U.S. President Obama), Research In Motion outships Apple by a more than 3-to-1 margin in the Middle East and Africa and BlackBerry outsold iPhone in Latin America 5-to-1, according to research firm IDC.
Sarah Frier of Bloomberg News in New York, tells 570 News, RIM has an extremely loyal fan base. She says BlackBerry loyalists are “still very fervently in favour of BlackBerry, using it all the time, can’t live without it, that kind of CrackBerry mentality that made the word the ‘word of the year’ in 2006.”
Frier says the fan base is not about to abandon the brand. In fact, she says those who have switched to other devices ended up coming back to the phone they fell in love with in the first place.
Frier adds, that in speaking with a number of BlackBerry devotees in the U.S., they are adamant that the BlackBerry is a superior device with regard to quick, effective and secure messaging. She says they still regard as the best smartphone on the market for business communication.
She says that in addition to dwarfing the competition in emerging markets, its loyal fans insist RIM could still make a comeback in the U.S. market, especially with the planned release later this year of BlackBerry 10, a new, feature-rich operating system.
