The Kitchener Rangers are hoping for a long playoff run.
Game one between Kitchener and Owen Sound goes tonight at the Aud. 570 News has the pre-game show at 7pm.
Last season, The Rangers were dispatched in the first round by the Plymouth Whalers, the series went seven games.
Many have Kitchener as the favourite in their match-up with the Attack due to the loss of Captain Mike Halmo.
The Waterloo native is currently serving a ten game suspension for a hit on Sarnia’s Nail Yakupov.
“He is (Halmo) such and important piece and one player in this instance really does make a huge difference.” said Patrick King, Sportsnet’s CHL Columnist.
“I don’t think too many people going into this campaign would have said Kitchener would finish 3rd overall in the conference…all the injuries they’ve had to key positions…It’s a nice story to see when teams are able to overcome such adversity like that.”
King could also see the Saginaw Spirit knocking off Sarnia in the first round.
Regardless of who wins the west though, he’s picking the Niagara Ice Dogs to win the OHL title.
“They have all the pieces…key players at every position.” added King.
