Hacked

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police website was hacked late Friday night.

The site now sits blank, aside from the message “Under Maintenance.”

The association took the site offline, after the unauthorized access of the site.

Spokesperson Joe Couto tells 570 News, after the attack some information was posted on a social media site about staff log-in information, “but that’s the extent of what we know so far. Our I.T. people are looking into it and we have also contacted the Ontario Provincial Police and they will be looking this as criminal mischief.”

Couto speculates this attack may have been mischief around the controversial Federal “Online Surveillance Bill”, called Bill C-30, which the association has pledged support for.

“That seems to be the intent here, beyond that I can’t really speculate.”

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews and others have been threatened by loosely-knit hacker group “Anonymous”. The group has recently been targeting military, police and security companies in their attacks.
