United Way KW asks for help

The United Way Kitchener Waterloo & Area is making an urgent plea for more donations.

Their fall fundraising goal of $6 million has fallen short by $1.1 million, bringing in $4.9 million.

CEO Jan Varner tells 570 News the community has done a fantastic job, but more funds are needed, “$4.9 (million) in two to three months is phenomenal, but this community needs more at this time and we need cash at this time, not just pledges.”

Varner says there are a couple of ways you can get in touch with United Way KW, “they can contact us through the website, or they could call us. We’d love to hear from them about how they could do it. It might be a corporation, it might be an individual, it might be a group of individuals.”

Varner says at $4.9 million raised, she isn’t sure the United Way KW will be able to provide the community with the level of support it needs.

The United Way KW invests in basic needs and services, and helps build the capacity of the not-for-profit sector, including womens shelters like Mary’s Place, and counselling centers such as Mosaic Counselling and Family Services.
