Van driver did not stop

OPP say Monday’s fatal crash in Hampstead “did not have to happen.”
Police say the driver of the van failed to stop for a stop sign and had an improper licence. He has been identified as David Armando Blancas, 45-year-old, from New Hamburg. He carried a Class G licence and should have had a Class F based on the number of passengers in the vehicle.
The rest of the victims of the crash have been identified and the complete list is below.
Saying the loss of so many lives all at once seems unimaginable, Chief Superintendent John Cain said it has been extremely challenging to identify those killed.
“The grim task of identifying all 11 victims and notifying the next of kin both here in London and in Peru has been extremely challenging. I would like to express my gratitude to the Peruvian Consulate in Toronto for their invaluable assistance to us,” said Cain.
“This crash did not have to happen, and these lives need not have been lost. Driver error is the largest contributing factor to collisions in Ontario,” Cain said.
The crash between the van and a transport truck killed 11 people and injured 3. These were the names of the victims released at this mornings’ news conference:
