Kitchener’s Kelly VanderBeek could be back on the hills this weekend.
The 29-year-old hasn’t skied competitively since suffering a very serious knee injury in December 2009.
She is heading to St. Moritz, Switzerland, this week and if all goes well in training, she will race in Saturday’s World Cup downhill.
I spoke to VanderBeek about her possible return during an interview in October 2011.
When asked about competing again VanderBeek said, “It will be pretty emotional, definitely.”
The injury forced her to miss the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, she narrowly missed winning a bronze medal in the super-G at the 2006 games.
