Numbers in from Festive RIDE 2011/2012

57 people where charged with impaired driving offences during the Festive RIDE Campaign, Regional Police said.

Staff Sergeant Scott Diefenbaker with the traffic branch tells 570 News they hope a growing ‘tip-giving’ trend continues going forward.

“We want to continue to encourage the public to call 911 when they see what they believe to be an impaired driving offense,” Sgt. Diefenbaker said.

“The public was responsible for nearly 50% of the people that we removed from the highway and ended up charging with an impaired driving offence during this festive ride season.”

The program ran from November 25th to January 9th, where officers checked almost 11,000 vehicles, more than 1,500 vehicles over last year.

Authorities also issued 33 three day suspensions and three seven day suspensions for drivers in the warn range.
