On Monday night the city of Kitchener held a public input meeting for the 2012 budget.
It was a packed house in the council chambers where they had nine registered delegations.
As it stands right now the budget proposed would see a 3.97% tax increase, which would equate to about $37 per household on average.
Results of a survey completed in 2009 shows that the citizens in Kitchener value high services over lower taxes 2 to 1.
Harald Drewitz who addressed council believes that at the time of the survey that “the citizens of Kitchener did not realize the full impact of the economic down turn of 2008/2009”
Drewitz says a more reasonable tax increase would be anywhere from 1.5%-1.9%, but would like to see no increase at all.
Around 35 people stood up and gave their support to Drewitz.
There was also a noticeable presence of Boat House supporters wearing their white shirts.
Budget day for the city is on Thursday January 19th.
