GO time has arrived in Kitchener

A new era in public transportation rolled into Kitchener this morning as GO train service has launched between Waterloo Region and Toronto.

Initially, the service will see two trains leave the Kitchener station every weekday morning, while two trains will return here from Union Station in the afternoon.

Kitchener Centre MPP John Milloy says the long term goal is to run trains between the two communities throughout the day, seven days a week.

Regional Chair Ken Seiling believes the ridership will be there and he says you need look no further than the usual congestion along the 401 to prove that point.

He says infrastructure, particularly in Toronto, prevents them from launching earlier trains at this time. He would also like to see morning trains from Toronto into Kitchener, pointing out some local high tech companies bus their workers in from Toronto every day.

The morning trains will leave Kitchener at 5:52 and 7:10 and they will return in the afternoon at 4:45 and 5:45.

570’s Eric Drozd took a ride in the GO Train on Sunday, and 570’s Laura Carney is traveling on it today.
