Management Consultant has advice for RIM

As investors react to Research in Motion’s Q3 results, a management consultant has some ideas on how to turn things around.

Lynne Bard, of Beyond Rewards, tells 570’s Jeff Allan Show the key to improving their situation lies in its focus. “…continuing branding the BlackBerry and other RIM products as business tools and that’s going to make a big difference. Also, (Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie) taking the pay cut and saying they’re going to  work for a dollar a year to help the company out is symbolic,” says Bard.
Bard says the BlackBerry maker needs to stop focusing on how to beat Apple, and focus more on what they can do for RIM. Additionally she says it may be time to think of partnering with Microsoft, as people have suggested: “They’d offer some more tools and make their products more business savvy.”

Late yesterday, Research in Motion reported that quarterly profits fell to $265-million U-S, that’s a far cry from the $911-million in the same three-month period last year. The company is also delaying the rollout of its next generation of smartphones – the BlackBerry 10.
