RIM to offer secure server to i-Phone and Android users

Research In Motion is about to cash in on its reputation for wireless security.

Despite its recent woes, analysts agree the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, or BES, is regarded as the most secure – a feature of extreme importance to companies who do not want non-employees, particularly competitors, accessing sensitive information.

RIM will offer an upgraded BES, which will allow business owners who use Apple or Android devices, to take advantage of the same security. “It allows them to now extend that RIM, BlackBerry, secure experience to a whole host of other devices within the workplace,” says Globe and Mail tech reporter Iain Marlow.

The server upgrade is expected to be released in February, to coincide with a software upgrade to the Playbook.
