In a new poll conducted for Environment Canada, stats suggest that 70 per cent of Canadians will look at a weather forecast at least once a day. On the other side of that coin, the survey shows that 3 per cent of people don’t care when weather warnings are issued.
So, are Canadians obsessed with weather?
Environment Canada’s Senior Climatologist, David Phillips tells 570News, that he receives many phone calls and emails whenever there’s a black cloud in the sky.
“That’s why I can’t figure out why there are a few Canadians who don’t think we’re obsessed with the weather, I really think we are.”
Phillips says he doesn’t buy the the 70 per cent stat, saying he thinks it is higher.
“I was really shocked by that result with 70 per cent of Canadians saying they’re very likely to look at a weather forecast during the day. I used to think that it was more like 93 per cent.”
Phillips adds that there is no doubt in his mind that Canadians are indeed obsessed with the weather.
“It is a badge of courage or badge of weather, we wear it prominently and it becomes part of our folklore and our memory and our conversations.”
In any case, enjoy the weather while you can!
