We are nearing the end the 2011 Movember campaign, which sees men grow mustaches in order to raise money for prostate cancer research.
Chair of the Kitchener-Waterloo committee, Karl Allen-Muncey tells 570 News all signs point to a very successful drive this year. “We’ve seen a far more prevalant rise in registered rise in mo-bros and sisters locally. The campaign itself has already beat all of last years milestone targets. We’ve got over 240,000 registered mo-bros and sisters in Canada. With a few days to go, Canada alone has raised over $24 million at this point. Last year, $22 million was raised over the entire month.” Allen-Muncey says this years campaign has been such a success thanks to all of the extra events that have been planned. “There’s so many ways that people are getting involved. It’s really doing a phenomonal job. I mean, everyone knows what Movember is about now. The mo-bros on the street are giving eachother that knowing nod when they see the furry upper lip so, it’s actually quite a fun one to be involved in as well.”
To cap things off, there is a big Movember Ball happening at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener. The “KW Movember Ball 2011” is happening on December 1st. Allen-Muncey desribes it as being “a red carpet themed Moment celebrating our successful 2011 KW Movember campaign to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer.” Tickets can be purchased http://guestlistapp.com/events/77493.
