Fans pumped as Lions host Grey Cup

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions are preparing for a date with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers next Sunday after delivering a beat down to the Edmonton Eskimos during the Western Final over the weekend.
We sent our Mike Lloyd out on the streets of Vancouver to get the temperature of fans as Grey Cup week begins in Vancouver.
The Grey Cup Festival got a lot more interesting for local fans after BC won by a score of 40-23.
We chatted with Tony who is pumped for the 99th Grey Cup and for his schedule as a security guard. “I’m going to be working. It’s going to be kind of a pain for me, basically.”
Luckily he won’t have to go far if he wants to celebrate with Lions fans next week. “The office is actually right beside the stadium!”
We also caught up with Jim who’s hoping to catch the game at BC Place. “I was thinking about taking my son, he’s 10, so we might end up going.”
But he says with ticket prices starting to rise, he might just have to hit the parties and other events. “To go down and watch the Vanier Cup on Saturday or maybe try to catch some of it, just the excitement.”
Despite their success against BC, the Bombers were just 3-5 against West Division competition, while the Lions were 3-5 versus East Division teams but 6-2 at home.
Some fans are speculating that local sports history may repeat itself this year. In 1994 the Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley Cup in Game 7 and the Lions won the Grey Cup at BC Place.
The Grey Cup Festival starts on Thursday with player awards and team parties. The Lions will take on the Blue Bombers next Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
