Man identified after fire in Cambridge

There’s been a deadly blaze this morning in Cambridge.

Cambridge Fire Platoon Chief Dave Mawdsley tells 570 News the investigation is still in the early stages.

But one person was pronounced dead on scene by EMS, and Regional Police have now identified him as 29 year old Noah Timmins, of Cambridge.

Crews responded to an automatic alarm after 4:00 this morning regarding a fire at an old downtown building on Main Street in the city.

It was a business below, and apartment units above at 126 Main Street

The fire is now out, and crews were able to contain the fire to the unit. Mawdsley adds the deceased was a resident of the unit.

Deputy Chief Doug Tennant told 570 News the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined nor has a complete damage estimate, but “at this present  time we estimate it at about $100,000”

This is second fire-related death in Cambridge this year and the Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in.

Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig was at the scene surveying the damage for himself, and told 570 News he’s proud of the fire crew, “when ever you lose somebody it’s truly devastating for everybody in the community, but our fire crews, as usual, saved 9 people, and you’ve got to put that into perspective.”

Regional Police say Main Street remains closed between Mill and Wellington.
