Conrad Grebel University College will be expanding thanks to a generous donation from the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union. The Credit Union has donated $1 million dollars to build a new floor which will house the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement.
Brent Zorgdrager is the CEO of the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union and tells 570News, the partnership was an easy decision because the credit union and the school have common origins.
“Its very first President and one of our early visionary founders were the same person, Jay Winfield Frets, it made sense to celebrate that common origins.”
Zorgdrager says the purpose of the Peace Advancement Centre is to come up with peaceful solutions to a world filled with conflict.
“We want to show through research and collaboration and innovation, that there are other ways to work through conflicts.”
Zorgdrager adds that emphasis will be put on finding active and practical ways of finding peaceful alternatives to conflict situations and says that social innovation is important and he hopes the new facility can come up with new ways of looking at conflict.
Conrad Grebel is a Christian liberal arts college affiliated with the University of Waterloo.
