The fall food drive campaign for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region just missed its goal for this year.
The goal was to collect 375,000 lbs of non-perishable food and as of yesterday, they were at 93%.
Executive Director Wendi Campbell isn’t concerned though, “With everything that we’re hearing about that’s being planned in the community for the holiday season, we think that the fall goal will just move into our holiday campaigns and we think that we are in a really good position to meet the needs of our agencies over the winter months.”
It’s a simple process to come up with a goal is simple according to Campbell, “We look at previous years totals to do an estimate of what we think we’re gonna need. We also look at the different types of food in our inventory and identify if there are any gaps.”
And even though the just missed their collection goal by 7%, Campbell couldn’t be happier, “It was a great fall season with great weather and great community support. Everything from Oktoberfest to school food drives, to businesses and organizations doing special events and we continue to be amazed by the support that the community is able to give us.”
Campbell says they don’t set a goal for the Christmas season because this is the time of year they receive the most donations anyway.
Meantime, they weren’t the only local food bank to not reach their fall goal. In Cambridge, the Self Help Food Bank set a goal of 105,400 lbs and collected only 80% of that.
