A flashpoint issue for motorists and cyclists alike – how to best share the road – was the focus of a public input workshop last night.
It was part of the Region’s new transportation master plan: Cycle Walk Waterloo Region.
Several ideas were floated at the meeting, including making it illegal for drivers to make right turns at red lights, and banning drivers from parking in bike lanes.
This morning’s Record reports another proposal was to make charges automatic if a motorist hits a cyclist or pedestrian.
About 80 people attended last night’s gathering with another one slated for November 17th at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Queen Street North in Kitchener.
The input from these meetings will be used by regional planners as they look for ways to make the streets safer for everyone.
