Wild second period leads Minnesota past Canucks

ST. PAUL, MIN (NEWS1130) – A three-goal second period, including goals from Guillaume Latendresse and Pierre-Marc Bouchard 21 seconds apart, helped Minnesota defeat the Canucks 5-1. Dan Hamhuis had the only Vancouver goal.

Matt Cullen scored twice in the third period for the Wild. He added an assist and had nine shots on goal in the game. The Virginia, Minnesota native also won 13 of 17 face-offs.

Minnesota’s 45 shots on goal was a season-high; it was also the most the Canucks have given up this season.

Cory Schneider was Vancouver’s best player, as he made 40 saves in the contest. And it was career game number 800 for Daniel Sedin.

Sami Salo was a late scratch after taking the pre-game skate. The veteran reportedly suffered a groin injury in practice on Wednesday.

The Canucks play the Blues in St. Louis tomorrow night.
