RIM market share slips in the states

Research In Motion’s US market share has slipped significantly over the last year.

RIM held a healthy 24% percent share of the American pie in Q3 2010, but this Canalys report shows that chunk shrinking to a 9% sliver by the end of Q3 2011.

Principle Analyst, Chris Jones told 570 News that’s “worrying” and that “while RIM transitions to its BBX based devices it must execute its strategy.”

But exactly when will those products hit the market you ask?

RIM has offered a loose release date of early next year and Jones said the company is doing that to “avoid making the same mistake of releasing a product before it’s ready as happened earlier this year with the PlayBook.”

Jones said at the same time, RIM has to provide a sort of “road map” to the carriers, developers and consumers alike so they know what to expect and especially to keep their developers on board.

Jones said the good news is RIM’s market share in other parts of the world is much more positive, such as in Europe Middle East Africa (EMEA) where the company saw a 59% growth in its subscriber base. Also, a 56% jump in Asia-Pacific (APAC) from a year ago.
