Day of Solidarity

A group of University of Waterloo students are raising their voices today.
Joining the Occupy movement, with a protest starting at 10 running until 3.
Organizer and 4th year student in Environment and Resource Studies, Naomi Horst told 570 News they are calling it a “Day of Solidarity”, “this is a really global movement, it started on Wall Street but it has spread all over the country and the world now, so we’re there in solidarity.”
Horst saying there are no planned goals or objectives with this protest, “we want it to be a natural evolution of the day. We’re hoping that as many people as possible can come, stay as long as they can, go to class when they have to and we’re really hoping to facilitate a really great discussion as well.”
Horst said it’s a day to show support for the global movement that sprung up on Wall Street, “and that students actually do care and we really think it’s important that students get their voices out there.” Horst adds that students get a bad reputation, “for not being involved and not being aware of the issues. We really want to show that this is our future and we want to fight for how we’d like to see our future run.”
It’s taking place on the Arts quad of UW, between the Dana Porter Library and the Arts Lecture Hall.
