Schneiders brand name and historic sign to live on

A Maple Leaf Foods official has confirmed to 570 News that not only will the Schneiders brand name live on after the Kitchener plant closes, but the historic neon Schneiders sign on the 401 will also stay put.
Douglas Dodds, Chief Strategy Officer for the company says that while Schneiders traces its roots to our area, having been founded in 1890 by J.M. Schneider in the town of Berlin, Schneiders products are made in several plants across the country.
Dodds calls Schneiders an “iconic” Canadian brand name. He says Maple Leaf will “continue to support and expand the Schneider brand and bring forward new products, new innovation that our meeting the needs of our consumers.”
As for the sign, which was erected over 50 years ago, Dodds tells 570 News, it too will live on after the plant closes. Dodds say “it will always be the wiener beacon.”
