RIM announces BBX

Research In Motion has announced the platform that will be carried in your BlackBerry products for years to come.

The QNX based next generation platform is called BBX.

RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis made the announcement at the beginning of DevCon Americas in San Francisco, “we’re going to show you what we’re doing to make it even better. Just like we revolutionized wireless email, we’re transforming the tablet experience.”   

Lazaridis saying this BBX platform takes the power of QNX, open standards and the best of BlackBerry in building a powerful development platform.

Several developers joined Lazaridis on stage, including Dan Dodge, the founder and co-developer of QNX. Dodge saying BBX is a single unified platform for the entire world, “it will be for phones, it will be for tablets and it will be made for those millions of embedded devices we use every day of our life. These will be managed devices in the cloud, accessing cloud services, it’s a truly unifying vision.”

Dodge said BBX micro-kernel architecture bringing the unique values of reliability and security.
