Student plans demonstration over roundabout

A 16-year old grade 11 student at St. Mary’s High School in Kitchener is spearheading a demonstration and petition, after one too many accident at a roundabout near her school.
Figures show there have been more than two dozen collisions at the traffic circle at Homer Watson and Block Line since late August. In the latest incident, a student was struck by a GRT bus while crossing the roundabout.
Rachel Jacquot told 570’s Jeff Allan Show today she has created an “event” on Facebook, urging fellow students, parents and concerned citizens alike, to turn out for the protest, set for Monday morning at 8 at the roundabout.
Jacquot says she wants to see an overhead walkway built, adding “I would rather climb a bunch of stairs than risk getting hit by a car, or a bus, or a truck.” The roundabout at Homer Watson and Block Line is the busiest in the region, and is the first to have three lanes around part of it. There have been more than two dozen collisions there since late August.
