The keg is tapped!

Thousands soaked in the sun and the festivities at the 43rd annual Oktoberfest opening ceremonies.
The Mayor’s Proclamation and keg tapping marked the occasion and of course, the ceremonies wouldn’t be complete without Polka Master Walter Ostanek.
Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr says everyone is invited to join in the fun, “we welcome all visitors to our region, to enjoy a happy and safe Oktoberfest.”
Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran says there is a lot going on this weekend, but our number one priority is to “be thankful for living in this community, in this great country and to celebrate our family and friends.”
Regional Chair Ken Seiling welcomed the crowd reminding people to care for one another, “as we celebrate Oktoberfest and Thanksgiving, let’s be friends to everybody and enjoy one another.”
Oktoberfest President, Vic Degutis welcomes all to Canada’s greatest Bavarian festival, “700, 000 of our closest friends will be celebrating the spirit of gemutlichkeit.”
Some of those friends are joining us from outside of the region, and from around the world, including a bowling team of 10 men from Germany, who will be in the region for a week.
2011 Miss Oktoberfest Brittany Graul says she’s an ambassador for Oktoberfest, but also for safe partying, “to make sure you get home safe, so that we can see you night after night.”
The great Bavarian tradition continues through the 15th.
