It’s finally here!

Today – the 43rd Annual Oktoberfest officially gets underway.

Opening ceremonies start just after 11 o’clock in the Kitchener Civic Square.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the official tapping of the keg.

President Vic Degutis says there are a few changes this year – Chicopee Haus is new, the Cambridge Rotary Haus is expanding, and the Transylvania Club is on the move.

“Well it gets bigger but we’re focusing very much on controlled growth and we’re focusing on quality as much anything else so that we ensure that people have the ultimate Oktoberfest experience all the time,” Degutis went onto say.

“We have 18 different Festhallen’s from small intimate halls of 400, to the big party with 4000 of my closest friends. We have 40 different family and cultural events, ranging from family events to adult events…it’s just a wide range of events.”

Opening ceremonies, which wrap up at 1:30 this afternoon will feature the newly crowned Miss Oktoberfest and festival ambassador Onkel Hans.
