The “Save the Boathouse” movement looks to tonight’s Kitchener City Council meeting.
Council will vote on a staff report recommending the Boathouse is kept alive.
Those recommendations include coming to a lease agreement with the venues current operator, Kevin Doyle and that an operational and structural analysis are carried out, to figure out how the building should be renovated. Councillor Berry Vrbanovic tells 570’s Gary Doyle Show how the facility may need to be amended, “one of the problems, for example, is bathroom access both for the public and for the Boathouse clientele.”
Vrbanovic says the city is facilitating the growth of its music scene, “this will actually help us move forward and maybe even see us develop that as a bit of a music incubator and see it grow from an economic development point of view.”
While the Boathouse will still be closed over the winter for the Victoria Park Lake improvements, Vrbanovic is confident this recommendation will have vast support, “it’s been well thought out, I know a lot of energy went into it this last week and I’m confident and certainly hopeful that it should go through.”
