For a 4th straight year, a walk going on today (Saturday) will raise money for the Alex Schmidt Memorial Fund.
Suzanna Walter lost her 15 year old son Alex 4 years ago and wanted to turn a tragic event, into something positive.
Walter turned to volunteering after she lost her son and helps out with Pathways to Education, which gives at-risk students the resources to finish high school.
“Half of the funds go to the endowment fund for future needs for youth in the community and the other half of the funds raised flows directly to Pathways to Education, so that way we can help the present, but also provide for some funds to continue for the future” said Walter.
Walter added there isn’t a fundraising goal because she wants the event to be more about the at-risk students participating and to encourage people to volunteer.
The walk is taking place at RIM Park in Waterloo. Registration is between 9:00-9:45 with the walk starting at 10am.
