The Largest Multi-Faith event in Canada is happening today in Waterloo, with scholars from various religions and philosophical views speaking.
It’s the 31st annual World Religions Conference. This years theme: “Who is God? – Nature and Characteristics”.
Nabeel Rana is the conference co-coordinator. He tells 570’s Jeff Allan Show says it’s important to get a public dialogue going when it comes to religious views: “Such a conference is meant to foster an understanding of respect and acceptance. In our humble opinion, that’s where many great minds and group leaders can get together and be an example of tolerance in their respective communities.” Rana goes on to say: “The purpose is to promote love. There’s hate everywhere, even in Waterloo Region. We should try to understand each other.”
There are 8 different views being represented: Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddism, Islam, Christianity, Aboriginal, and Humanism (Atheism and Agnostics).
The conference runs from 10am to 6pm this evening at the University of Waterloo’s J. G. Hagey Hall.
It will be moderating by 570’s Jeff Allen.
