Kitchener-Conestoga Debate

Candidates in the Kitchener-Conestoga riding were centre stage on 570News.com and Rogers T-V last night, debating for two hours over dozens of issues.
Many of the thirty questions asked over the course of the night, included issues of alternative transportation, health care, hydro rates and job creation.
P-C candidate Michael Harris calls Ontario a “have not” province and says good paying jobs need to return to Ontario.
“The Ontario P-C Party will do this by cutting the job killing red tape by thirty percent. Often times I hear businesses say how there just to much red tape, it’s slowing productivity and disincenting businesses from starting up.”
But Liberal candidate Leeanna Pendergast says Ontario is creating jobs.
“Certainly since January 53-percent of all the full time jobs that were created in Canada, were created in Ontario.”
N-D-P candidate Mark Cairns says his party plans on creating jobs be rewarding job creators.
Another hot button issue was Taxes.
N-D-P candidate Mark Cairns says there is far too much government waste.
“The Ontario New Democrats have the most prudent fiscal spending plan coming in at only $3.5 billion dollars of spending, compared to the $3.9 billion dollars from the Liberals and $5.9 billion dollars from the Conservatives.”
P-C candidate Michael Harris says his party will lower give Ontarians a break.
“Our party believes in providing real relief for Ontario families by reducing the HST off home heating and hydro bills.”
But Liberal candidate Leeanna Pendergast says the Liberal tax reform package has helped small businesses get back on their feet, and has attracted foreign investment to Ontario.
Another issue brought forth to the table was Highway 7 and why it’s taking a long time to fix.
P-C candidate Michael Harris says it was just another broken promise.
“Construction was supposed to start in 2010-2011 and nothing has been done.”
But Liberal candidate Leeanna Pendergast says but project is on track.
“The project has not been delayed, in fact $40 million dollars has been committed to the hiring of staff in order to design the project. The environmental assessments are ongoing.”
And N-D-P candidate Mark Cairns says his party is committed to fixing Highway 7 as it’s an important piece of infrastructure.
