Oktoberfest parade marshall is thrilled

Canadian sportscaster Brian McFarlane will be the parade marshall for this year’s Oktoberfest Parade, and he’s thrilled.

McFarlane, best known as a commentator on Hockey Night in Canada which he did for 25 years tells 570 News he’s looking forward to it.

“I was very surprised to get the invitation and I accepted immediately. I’m thrilled and delighted,” McFarlane said.

McFarlane is no stranger to the festivities as he attended the event years ago.

The native of New Liskeard has written over 50 books on hockey and tells us he is looking for a publisher for his next one.

“It’s a book I call ‘Golden Oldies’ and I am going way back to write about Sprague Cleghorn and King Clancy and some of the fellows that played 100 years ago.”

McFarlane was a colour commentator on the night the leafs last won the Stanley Cup and says if the chemistry is right and the team avoids injury this year, ‘anything can happen’.
