Guelph Stand-off

A stand-off between police and a 14-year-old boy in a house in Guelph’s west side ended peacefully early Saturday morning.
At around 4:30 Friday afternoon, Guelph Police were called to a standoff outside a townhouse complex on Paisley Road where they found a distraught 14-year-old boy alone in his home. They were concerned for his safety.
Police cleared bystanders from a wide area around the townhouse complex which is about 100 units. As people arrived home from work, some could get into their homes, but several who live close to the unit in question were not allowed home.
Residents gathered in the parking lot and huddled under trees when it started to rain, speculating about what was going on and hoping it would soon be over.
Several officers, a fire truck and ambulance personnel were also on the scene. Neighbours reported seeing officers with firearms drawn.
At one point police told the crowd to move out of view of the unit as the youth was becoming agitated.
The Tactics and Rescue Team, K-9, negotiators and uniform division members worked together and eventually convinced the youth to come out of his home at 1:30am.
