Galloway Proposes Reach Program

After travelling to Morogoro, Tanzania, with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Ward 5 Councillor Kelly Galloway is devoted to extending more help to the developing City.

“I had the opportunity to travel to Morogoro, Tanzania through the federation of Canadian Municipalities Partnership that the city is working on, for economic development, and really my time over there allowed me to see the community and really what their needs are.”

On Monday, Galloway asked Council to support her plan to start a community out reach program that would further assist the people of Morogoro.

The City of Kitchener has already partnered with Morogoro through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to help assist with local economic development. It allows members of council and city staff to visit the Tanzanian city, and for their officials to come to Kitchener.

“I think that for Morogoro we have the opportunity to work education in orphanages, but also to bring our community together to work together on a number of different issues so really its going to be community driven…. That’s kind of my goal first and foremost.”

“We have an opportunity to really help out a developing city.. And you know we’re not only doing that in the economic development area but also just in community building and I think that that’s great.”
