Waterloo “Y” Opens

It’s a big day for residents of northwest Waterloo.
The long awaited new YMCA opens to the public.
Years in the making, the facility at Fischer-Hallman and Laurelwood fills a recreational void in that rapidly growing part of the city.
The opening is not only for club members, but also the public and takes place today and tomorrow from noon until 5 p.m.
The grand opening is slated for September 29th, followed by a ribbon cutting in October.
In addition to the “Y”, there will also be a new library, which is scheduled to open October 22nd.
The cost of the project – the “Y” and library combined – was just over $22-million.
The building covers 68,000 square feet, including the 20,000-square-foot library branch.
