Hundreds turn out for Communitech recruiting event

Over 40 companies set up at the Waterloo Inn for the TechVibe Recruiting Event put on by Communitech.
President and CEO Iain Klugman tells 570 News, the majority of the 800 technology companies in Waterloo Region are hiring, “so it’s a great opportunity for us, for companies all the way from start-ups through to big global multi-nationals to access some of the talent, so we’re thrilled with the outcome of today.”
Doug Given from Teledyne Dalsa, which designs and manufactures image sensors and cameras for machine vision and a variety of applications, tells 570 News, they’re looking for a number of technical positions. “In the design area, we need some Electronics Design, Junior level and we’re looking for one with some Space Qualification experience, more of a senior designer, and we have a number of positions open in Manufacturing,” he says.
Many of the job seekers on hand were recent post-secondary graduates and some are still in school with months to go. However, a vast majority came to the job fair as former Research in Motion employees. 570 News spoke with people who held jobs as Office Coordinator, Logistics Analyst, IT Service Desk, Quality Assurance and Human Resources Training and Development.
Many of the job-seekers had plenty of good to say about the job fair, like Victoria who said, “It’s great that Communitech does this, I think that there are other people like me that are part of the high-tech community that aren’t always acknowledged as the experts in high-tech but we are a part of the family and the community here too and so it’s great that there is lots of opportunity”.
Klugman noted that over 150 people lined up at the door before the event opened, and anticipates as many as 700 by the days end.
