Waterloo taxes expected to rise

Waterloo City Council has begun the task of crunching numbers, in advance of preparing its 2012 budget.

It’s too soon to say what sort of property tax hike may be in store, but this morning’s Record quotes Councillor Mark Whaley as saying “It’s now time to do less with less.”

Councillors were told the tax base is not expanding as rapidly as in the past and it needs to keep in mind its high debt load.

This year, the city tax increase was 1.9% – part of a close to 10% hike estimated over a four-year period ending in 2014.
