Apple is the latest big U.S. chain to set up shop in Waterloo Region. Today marks the grand opening of the Apple Store in Conestoga Mall.
Wilfrid Laurier marketing instructor, Shirley Lichti, says the new store speaks to the population growth in this region and she adds, “We have a very large student population here and Apple tends to be a product that younger students really embrace.”
Apple probably won’t be the last big chain to move in. Lichti says a number of U.S. chains are considering coming to Canada, like Target for example.
However, Lichti adds that it doesn’t mean every big U.S. chain would work in Waterloo Region. She says, “As an example, a lot of people would love to have a Lululemon store here but you haven’t got a high enough density of population for the kind of people who buy Lululemon clothing, to justify it.”
The Waterloo Apple Store opens to the public at 9:30 a.m.
