Asia markets down

Although the financial markets in Asia are down this morning, there was no dizzying plunge as some investors had feared.

The Nikkei Index in Tokyo closed down 2.2 per cent, while the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong lost 2.2 per cent.

Australian main index was off 2.9 per cent, while Dow futures are down 1.3 per cent.

There had been concern of a massive selloff after Standard and Poor’s cut the U-S government’s credit rating on Friday night.
