Guelph police are investigating a pair of suspicious overnight fires.
The first blaze broke out just before 3 AM in a utility trailer parked in the driveway of a home on Kirkland Street. The second fire was reported about an hour later in the parking lot of a townhouse complex on College Avenue, where a vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
No injuries are reported in either fire and damage is estimated at about $10,000.
Investigators have determined that the Kirkland Street fire was an act of arson and, at this point, they say the College Avenue fire does not appear to be natural or mechanical in nature.
Police are comparing the evidence and circumstances of both these fires in an effort to determine if there are any connections to the recent fires in the Grange Road area of the City. Those fires, reported over the last two weeks, have done an estimated $700,000 in damage.
Police have dedicated new resources to these latest fires and will be working closely with the Guelph Fire Department to investigate these incidents to the fullest.
Police once again urge all residents to be extra attentive and to call if they observe any suspicious activity.
