Local youths competing in Scotland

Today is a big deal for some local athletes, they are boarding a plane  for Lanarkshire, Scotland.

A swim team and six members of the K-W Track and Field Association are competing in the International Children’s Games.

The games run from  August 3rd to the 8th.

It’s the world’s biggest youth sporting event with approximately 1500 competitors.

Pat Campbell is the President of the K-W Track and Field Association and  also a long-distance coach. He tells 570 News the six track athletes have been training  for up to 15 hours a week to prepare and he expects they will be bringing medals home.

The 12 to 15-year olds fly out today and return August 10th.

Campbell also says it’s going to be competitive but the event is about interacting with other athletes and other countries and culture to make the world a smaller place.
