Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards

The application process for the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards has been announced and you can play a part in the selection process.

Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, Diane Finley said the government is trying to encourage everyone to recognize the contributions that very special people have made, “and that includes young people. There is a special category at the national award level for emerging leaders, somebody who has been volunteering for probably less than three years.”

The awards recognize the contributions of individuals, groups, businesses and not-for-profit organizations. There are 17 awards in all, at both the regional level and the national level. In each of five regions across Canada, three awards will be presented for a total of 15 regional awards. The categories for regional awards are Community Leader, Business Leader and Social Innovator. The two national awards presented are for Lifelong Achievement and for Emerging Leader.

The winners will get to choose a not-for-profit organization to receive a grant of $5, 000 at the regional level and $10, 000 at the national level.

Starting today (Tuesday) you can go to www.pm.gc.ca/awards to submit nominations, which close September 9th.
