Dead fish close Marden Park lake

Public health officials in the Guelph-Wellington area are trying to figure out what caused scores of fish to turn up dead in the lake at Marden Park in Guelph-Eramosa Township.
The Guelph Mercury reports the fish began washing ashore Monday prompting officials to close the lake and warn people to stay away from the water and not to eat fish from the lake.
Health unit program manager Scott Hutchison told the paper “there is probably a very slim chance” that whatever killed the fish is also harmful to humans.
Still, they’ve closed the lake and issued the warning to be on the safe side.
The dead fish will be tested at the University of Guelph with results expected back later this week.
